The opportunity
The Assistive Technology Specialist provides technical support to students, employees, and departments, and delivers hands-on or virtual/remote training and troubleshooting. You will support our commitment to accessibility by testing digital software tools with assistive technology in digital environments, workplace systems, and learning spaces. Working under the guidance of the Assistive Technology Manager, the specialist ensures timely, person-centered service, contributes to internal documentation, and fosters inclusive access through collaboration, technical guidance, and awareness-building. You will work on-site between our campus and Millyard offices.
What you'll do:
* Test ITS systems for accessibility with other ITS departments.
* Consult with departments on accessible technology and accessibility implementation and compliance.
* Recommend potential solutions for accessibility barriers based on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and Section 255 of the Communications Act, WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
* Provide advanced support for students, staff, and faculty using assistive technologies as escalated through the Help Desk or other teams.
* Provide training on assistive technology, accessibility, and universal design with teams.
* Be a technical resource for legal compliance reviews including VPAT review.
* Collaborate with the University Campus and Online Accessibility Center to ensure students receive appropriate assistive technology solutions and accessibility support tailored to their needs
* Recommend accessibility standards for software, equipment, and components.
* Recommend accessible technology across campus.
* Support all departments in implementing and maintaining assistive technology and accessibility resources, including digital content remediation, while identifying and deploying new tools to enhance inclusive access across the organization
What we're looking for:
* 2+years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities using assistive technology.
* Bachelor's degree in assistive technology, ergonomic technology, rehabilitation technology, information systems, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification, Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for Individuals with Visual Impairments (CATIS), or other recognized assistive technology credentials.
* Certification in screen reader technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
* Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 guidelines and Universal Design for Learning, Inclusive Design, User experience, and applying accessibility standards in practice.
* CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies)

Compensation
The annual pay range for this position is $62,411.00 - $99,876.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $68,964.00 - $93,304.00.
