Summary
This position's purpose is to strengthen knowledge and awareness of the importance of Web Accessibility regulations and guidelines to our campus. As Diversity and Inclusiveness is a key Shared Value at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, this position ensures that all websites within our content management systems are in compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA and legal guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
Web Content Management System Compliance
Conducts in-depth Section 508/WCAG compliance assessments for UAB websites via manual reviews and using automated testing tools and assistive technologies
Compiles reports concerning failures in Section 508/WCAG compliance and identifies ways to remediate and make recommendations regarding prioritization of remediation efforts
Collaborates on website templates and design decisions for the University's content management system(s) alongside web technology stakeholders within University Relations and across campus
Policy Consultation/Advisory
Participates in Digital Accessibility Committee as representative for Web Accessibility to work with information technology stakeholders across the University to evaluate and recommend software, technologies, and related procedures
Creates accessibility reports and presentations for senior leadership regarding web accessibility strategy and progression on campus
Collaborates with Compliance and Procurement Offices to stay current on Federal and Board of Regents guidelines concerning web accessibility and legal settlements and impacts of legislation on higher education accessibility
Outreach/Campus Training
Develops, updates, and maintains a library of web accessibility information and training materials
Provides ongoing support for the University's enterprise web governance tool, Monsido, and advises on ways to enhance the tool's capabilities for UAB websites
Perform other duties as assigned
This position is required to keep abreast of best practices in the field and remain up-to-date on current trends and new technologies. This position should anticipate change and ensure the organization is positioned to succeed.

Annual Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Design or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Remote work location is optional for this position. Computer and other approved supplies would be provided. High-speed internet required for remote work location eligibility. Additional conditions may apply.
