Job Summary/Basic Function
This position creates accessible course materials in Canvas. These hourly staff will work with the Canvas Support Supervisor and the Executive Director of WSU Online to monitor trends, gather reports, and complete work orders. Job duties include:
Collaborating with faculty who need accessibility support
Gathering data and create reports on accessibility efforts in Canvas
Remediating course files, or in other words, reformatting PDFs, MS Word docs, and online presentations so they are recognized and properly structured for screen reader software
Assist with closed captioning of videos in Canvas
Assist with creating and properly coding alternate text (alt text) for digital images
Collaborate with the Disabilities Office and the Library to create accessible and copyright free content
Provide backup technical support for the on-site Canvas Support Desk
Adhere to government regulations, university standards, department policy surrounding the usage and sharing of personal and sensitive data.
Required Qualifications
Proficient with Adobe Acrobat Pro and MS Office Suite products
Basic knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and how it functions
Must be a Weber State Student enrolled in at least 12 credits Fall and Spring or 6 credits in the Summer.
Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
Must have a term GPA of at least 2.0.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiar with screen reader technology
Familiar with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Familiar with Web Accessibility checkers such as WebAIM and/or WAVE

Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading., Required to have close visual acuity to inspect small defects, small parts at distances close to the eye., Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services,) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection).
