Job Summary

Aptive is seeking an Accessibility Specialist with demonstrated experience in remediation of video, audio and web content to assist with the development of compliant, accessible products to support and execute efforts for a federal client with IT-related communications strategies and services. The ideal candidate will have experience working on communications for the Department of Veterans Affairs and/or in other federal agencies.



The ideal candidate is a self-starter, proactive problem-solver and action-oriented team player. He/she must be committed to providing superior service, poised in a fast-paced environment and have a positive and flexible attitude.



This is an Associate-level, full-time position in Washington, DC, with potential for remote work with client approval. This is a contingent hire position.
Primary Responsibilities

Perform proficient Section 508 evaluation, testing and remediation of file types such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe PDF to ensure access to persons with disabilities who utilize screen readers or other assistive technologies.
Ensure all communication products adhere to accessibility standards as defined by the OIT brand system (or current authoritative publication) and designated VA and government staff, starting with document owner and content producer.
Conduct 508-compliance checks on communication products before releasing for posting to the OIT web presence or releasing products for public viewing.
Help the to government in consulting on accessibility checks for other products as requested by OIT leadership.
Perform quality control reviews of documents and deliverables for Section 508 compliance.
Utilize software tools to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document errors as they occur.
Understanding of accessibility testing, tools, and standards (Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act).
Liaise and communicate with stakeholders to and senior team members to review creative and gather feedback.

Minimum Qualifications

3 years of accessibility experience in making products 508 complaint for a wide range of products including outreach products, presentation briefing decks, and informational graphics.
Excellent communication skills and comfortable with Microsoft Office and accessibility and collaboration tools to include Zoom, Box, and Slack.
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, or a related field.
Proficient in Section 508 evaluation, testing and remediation of media content and documents.
Familiarization of videos, audio and multimedia file types such .MP4, .AVI, .ASF, .MKV, .MOV, H.264, and others is required.
Experience providing text equivalent descriptions such as Closed Captions and transcripts in accordance with the Section 508 law.
Must have knowledge of HTML and Section 508 law especially as it relates to CFR 1994 Sub-part B., the Technical Standards and Functional Performance Criteria.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience supporting federal executive level clients.
Proven experience in managing multiple creative projects and meeting deadlines.
Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Active VA PIV card is preferred.
