Web Services and UX Technical Lead (Web Developer III)

The Iowa State University Library is hiring a Web Services and UX Technical Lead (Web Developer III).
This is a hands-on front-end development role focused on accessibility and user experience across the Library’s web ecosystem.
The position provides technical leadership, supervises one web developer plus student employees, and collaborates across the library to ensure web platforms are reliable, accessible, and user-centered.

What you’ll do:
- Lead and mentor web development staff and student employees.
- Drive accessibility compliance across web platforms, with WCAG 2.1 AA remediation as a first-year priority.
- Develop responsive, standards-compliant front-end code (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript).
- Guide user experience improvements through usability testing, analytics, and interface audits.
- Establish and maintain reusable components, theming frameworks, and shared design standards.
- Coordinate with staff, IT, and vendors on front-end updates, integrations, and accessibility.
- Document development practices and workflows.

Required qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in front-end development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript).
- Applied knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA, Title II.
- Experience with design systems, reusable components, or theming frameworks.
- Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, or supervision.
- Experience with version control and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub, Azure).
- Experience in higher education, libraries, or other complex organizations with multiple stakeholders.

Appointment: Full-time, 12-month regular appointment. Pay grade PS811.
