Software Engineer II
At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. This mission connects in fundamental ways with how we as a company operate, how we design and develop technology and how we work with others to serve people with disabilities. To make our products and services accessible, we need to know when we have issues and how to fix them. In other words, our tools need to help us more easily and quickly find and fix accessibility issues.
Inclusive design and accessibility affects all of us, whether we have a disability that is situational, temporal (broken arm), or onset due to aging. That is why Microsoft has made a special emphasis on ensuring that all our software is accessibility to all our users.
We are the Accessibility Insights team within the 1ES (One Engineering System) organization. We have been chartered and funded to improve the quality of the accessibility tools used within Microsoft. In our first few years, we have built developer-centric diagnostic tools for web, Windows desktop, and Android mobile. These tools have been very well received by our initial users and we are looking to extend these tools with more features and coverage. We have also shared these tools with the world as open-source projects.
