Accessibility Analyst



JOB PURPOSE

An Accessibility Analyst provides accessibility expertise for both internal and external clients for The Nerdery. Primary roles include estimating and executing accessibility assessments, providing guidance and input as necessary during a project’s lifecycle, contributing to The Nerdery’s operational accessibility growth, and assisting with any other accessibility-related tasks or client requests as necessary.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Test with empathy for potential users and understanding of the guidelines
Map out site features and estimate accessibility assessments
Review websites to WCAG 2.1 AA standards
Perform remediation testing when necessary
Advocate for and create internal accessibility initiatives
Contribute to internal accessibility initiatives and projects as directed
Possess the ability to complete an engagement from start to finish in a team setting or with potentially limited guidance or oversight
Create well-written, comprehensive tickets and accessibility reports
Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills
Effectively communicate findings to project stakeholders
Utilize tools and scripts as needed to verify accessibility
Test for and contribute to Nerdery best practices for accessibility
Meet The Nerdery’s standards for regular and reliable attendance
Complete weekly time tracking as directed
Possess curiosity, drive, and creative thinking


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct or assist with mobile application accessibility testing
Review websites to WCAG 2.1, Section 508, or other accessibility standards as required
Maintain and expand subject matter expertise
Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients
Provide timely technical consultation and clear communication to client throughout project lifecycle
Work proactively to discover and understand clients’ needs, communicating objectively with both the SPM and the client to ensure the best possible outcome for all
Collaborate on creation and maintenance of project documentation (e.g., scopes of work, test plans, deployment plans, milestones, and timelines)
Perform other applicable tasks, as directed


SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Strong understanding of web accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.0 AA and A.
Familiarity with standard HTML5 element structure
Ability to read HTML code to determine potential issues
Familiarity with ARIA states and properties and their uses
Possess a general understanding of potential accessibility issues from a user perspective
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to recognize, choose, and effectively use tools that are right for the job
Familiarity with terminal window commands
Ability to navigate effectively in screen reader software such as VoiceOver, NVDA, or JAWS
Experience using issue tracking software such as JIRA


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associate’s Degree, and/or equivalent experience.
Minimum 2 year experience as NQAE or manager recommendation, or 3 - 4 years external QA
