Business Systems Analyst for Accessibility Remediation

UC Berkeley has launched a three-year Website and Third-Party Platform Remediation Project (WaTR) that will ensure our websites and videos are accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies. The project has been established in collaboration between Berkeley IT, and the Office of Disability Access and Compliance as one initiative that is part of the larger Digital Accessibility Program. The Business Systems Analyst for the WaTR Project will join a new and unique team within Berkeley Information Technology, and is responsible for assisting with the assessment and remediation of web sites and web applications that have accessibility issues, developing and/or identifying training resources internally or externally, offering training, and assisting with the development of a wide ranging communications plan to support the project. The goal of the project is to enhance UC Berkeley’s approach to accessibility compliance with the following primary targets: the top 200 most visited, public facing websites; poor or absent captioning on websites; and an awareness and prevention campaign.

Historically, Berkeley has played a central role as the home of the independent living civil rights action and the civil rights movement. The team in which this role reports is doing 21st century civil rights work, and we seek individuals who can help Berkeley accomplish this critical work. The team for the WaTR Project is a highly collaborative team across Berkeley IT, Disability Access and Compliance, and many key stakeholders on campus. The position involves scheduling and supporting accessibility reviews of new and existing websites and third party applications, including mobile applications, and writing reports based on the findings of the accessibility reviews. The person in this position will keep abreast of new developments with key standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, 2.2, WAI-ARIA 1.2, and other applicable W3C standards. They will use their knowledge of such standards and frameworks to guide and support their daily work.

Salary Range: $74300 - $104400
