Accessibility-Focused Front-End Developer (WCAG, 508) - 100% remote

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Front-End Developer with a strong focus on accessibility to help us build responsive and user-friendly web applications. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks, follows WCAG and Section 508 compliance standards, and thrives in Agile, team-oriented environments.


Key Responsibilities:

Develop accessible and responsive web applications using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks like Angular and Bootstrap.
Ensure all UI components meet Section 508 and WCAG AA compliance requirements, including ARIA integration, semantic markup, and screen reader support.
Use JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as jQuery, Backbone.js, Ember.js, D3, and ensure strict mode and modularization standards are met.
Consume and integrate RESTful APIs to power dynamic data-driven user experiences.
Create web layouts and interfaces from static designs, mockups, or UX/UI artifacts.
Build views and templates in full-stack frameworks such as Rails, Express, or Django.
Collaborate in an Agile team using Scrum or Lean methodologies, participating in sprints, code reviews, and stand-ups.
Utilize Git/GitHub for version control, branching strategies, and collaborative development.
Contribute to and leverage open-source tools and communities to enhance platform functionality and accessibility.
Conduct manual and automated accessibility testing using tools like axe, Lighthouse, and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver).


Required Qualifications:

5+ years of front-end development experience
Strong expertise in web accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508)
Proficiency in JavaScript and frameworks/libraries such as Angular, jQuery, Backbone, Ember, or D3
Experience with responsive design and frameworks like Bootstrap or Bourbon
Hands-on experience consuming RESTful APIs
Familiarity with Agile development practices
Strong command of Git/GitHub
Ability to work collaboratively with designers, developers, and QA teams


Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with automated accessibility testing tools (JAWS, axe-core, pa11y, Lighthouse)
Experience with DAISY audio books
Experience building streaming media applications
