ADA/504 Coordinator

The ADA/504 Coordinator’s responsibilities include assuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. The ADA/504 Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Brown University policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities, tracking University progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities, filing all necessary reports, and providing consultative services to employing units and offices. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity, Accessibility and Compliance (AVP) and will work closely with the AVP in managing the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University's ADA compliance. As a member of the Office of Equity Compliance and Reporting in the Division of Campus Life, the ADA/504 Coordinator will serve as one of several entry points in which community members and/or guests of the University can report or seek information on reasonable accommodations, the discrimination and harassment complaint process, and any other accessibility-related matters. The incumbent will work closely with Campus Life, OIED, University Human Resources, Office of General Counsel, Student Accessibility Services and other key stakeholders to develop and implement training programs and informational materials for faculty, staff, and students on reporting and adjudication processes related to ADA compliance, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in disability services, preferably in education/higher education, social services or a community service setting.

Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, special education, social work, human resource management, higher education administration, etc.).

Ability to apply ADA/504 requirements to achieve reasonable accommodations utilizing knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws/regulations relating to ADA/504 accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate or terminal degree in a related field.

Experience applying ADA/504 requirements to achieve reasonable accommodations in a higher education setting.

Experience reviewing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs).

Knowledge and experience in employee relations/human resources.

Knowledge of complexities surrounding disability in a college setting.

Knowledge of Maxient software.

Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques.

Tact, discretion, professionalism, maturity and outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.

Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and the ability to both be and project impartiality and establish rapport with a diverse range of community members.

Ability to work as part of a university-wide community to resolve concerns in a neutral and sensitive manner.

Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Must be able to work independently, collaboratively across the organization, and under the supervision of the AVP.
