Overview:
At GitHub, we believe building for everyone starts with designing for everyone. As a Product Designer Intern, you’ll work on creating experiences that enable developers of all backgrounds, abilities, and identities to do their best work.

From contributing to our design system to shaping inclusive workflows, you’ll bring empathy, creativity, and curiosity to every problem. You’ll collaborate with designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers to build thoughtful, equitable, and innovative solutions. You’ll also explore how inclusive design principles can be applied to emerging technologies, like AI-enhanced developer tools, to ensure they work for everyone.

This internship is more than a chance to learn accessibility standards, it’s a unique opportunity to influence one of the most widely used developer platforms in the world. With guidance from experienced design mentors, you’ll see how inclusive principles come to life in real products. And of course: use GitHub to build GitHub.

This is a remote summer internship for 12 consecutive weeks with start dates between May- June 2026.

Responsibilities:
Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, and product partners to design experiences that work for a wide variety of users.
Design and iterate on inclusive user flows, components, and UI patterns.
Annotate accessibility specs and intent of designs in Figma.
Help evolve our inclusive design practices, including contributions to accessibility reviews, usability testing, and inclusive research.
Contribute to documentation and design guidance related to inclusivity and accessibility.
Learn and apply WCAG accessibility standards, but go beyond compliance to advocate for human-centered design decisions.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Accessibility Studies, or a related field, with at least one term remaining post-internship.
A portfolio demonstrating thoughtful design work with an eye toward inclusion and accessibility.
Experience with designing equitable experiences that consider diverse user needs and contexts through internships, academic projects, research, or equivalent work.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using design tools such as Figma and the ability to document accessibility specifications and annotations.
Curiosity about emerging technologies such as AI, and how they impact inclusive and accessible design.
Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design frameworks (e.g., WCAG, POUR principles, or Microsoft Inclusive Design toolkit).
Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS or design systems.
Strong written communication skills.

Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $33.17 - USD $87.93 /Hr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
