AFB is presently seeking a Lead Accessibility Engineer and Client Relationship Manager to manage all aspects of AFB Consulting Solutions’ delivery efforts—especially activities designed to assess and improve the accessibility and usability of products, technology, and digital content, and to help organizations develop policies, governance, programs, and standard operating procedures that better support accessibility and usability proactively as part of design and development lifecycles. This position is an onsite full-time, 12-month+ contract role in Pleasanton, CA with occasional travel elsewhere in the United States. Accountabilities:

Serve as the main onsite Point of Contact and Subject-Matter Expert on Accessibility at the Client’s location (Pleasanton, CA), with an ability to fully assist on all aspects of accessibility throughout the design and development cycle including---but not limited to---the following: providing design recommendations, code recommendations/troubleshooting, and QA testing against the Web-Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 and against screen-reader compatibility.
Lead and cultivate projects related to tactical-level accessibility and inclusion needs. Examples include reviewing products, technologies, and digital assets (including mobile) for accessibility (e.g., conformance with applicable standards, such as WCAG 2.0 A and AA) and usability.
Lead and cultivate projects related to program-level accessibility and inclusion needs. Examples include developing and/or reviewing standard operating procedures, governance, and policy; assessing, development of, and delivery of accessibility/best-practice training both internal to AFB and as part of AFB’s consulting solutions; and training of accessibility topics.
Self-manage consulting delivery efforts associated with AFB consulting projects to ensure success once the Statement of Work has been signed. Examples include developing and carrying out project plans, communicating with customers as needed to ensure project success, providing best-in-class reports/deliverables, notifying billing to invoice work, and a willingness to engage in travel (up to 25%) as needed.
Support sales efforts/solution designing in Consulting. Examples include helping with project scoping and level-of-effort estimation and peer review of draft statements of work.
Engage in thought-leadership activities including—but not limited to—a technology blog, contributions to AFB publications, sustaining an active membership in the W3C, and helping the Chief Consulting Solutions Officer to develop and execute a strategic plan for the Consulting Practice as directed.
Closely monitor and manage client relationships, elevating concerns and ideas to the Chief Consulting Solutions Officer as appropriate.
Train and assign work to Accessibility Engineers. Ensures deadlines are met and overall goals are achieved.
Lead the development and maintenance of Consulting tools: examples include the Client log-in portal and a Best-Practices Resource center for usability and accessibility.
Create and analyze customer service and contract reports at the direction of the Chief Consulting Solutions Officer in order to support decision making and/or reporting.
Perform other duties and works on other projects, as assigned, including contributions to AFB’s own internal accessibility journey.
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, human factors or related field required, plus five years of related experience required. Must possess technical expertise regarding the following: methods and strategies related to technology accessibility for persons who are blind or visually impaired; HTML, JAVA, ARIA, Adobe AEM, and coding for mobile devices; extensive experience in JAWS; familiarity with HHS Usability Guidelines; and familiarity with common accessibility scanning tools such as WorldSpace, Compliance Sherriff, Wave, Tenon, ARC, and others. Must possess exceptional writing. PMP Certification preferred.
