Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an IT Accessibility Manager for the Office of Information Technology- Enterprise Service Delivery (OIT-ESD). Reporting to the Director of IT Accessibility, the IT Accessibility Manager is primarily responsible for leading a team of highly skilled accessibility analysts and directing them in their daily responsibilities.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Serve as a technical subject matter expert on all activities related to digital accessibility, supports the University’s mission of providing an effective and efficient digital user experience by maintaining compliance with the University’s digital accessibility policy and related local, state, and federal laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, and will work closely with IT procurement staff, the Office for Disability Resources, central and distributed IT groups, faculty, instructional technology groups, IT vendors, and other members of the community.
Work to foster a culture of accessibility by creating awareness of how IT products and services can impact or be impacted by users with varying levels of ability and learner types through training workshops, end-user support, and audit activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of accessibility.
A minimum 2 years managing a high-performance team.


Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Some experience with project/program management
Strong understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
Demonstrated application of disability law as it applies to digital accessibility and Section 504/508
Strong understanding of best practices for accessible websites and applications
Demonstrated effective performance in a team-oriented environment
Accessibility auditing, consulting, and/or training experience
Strong technical writing skills: ability to create compelling, detail-oriented documentation that sets up design, engineering, and testing teams for success
Passion for product process and innovation
Strong analytical skills
Experience with developing and maintaining relationship with key stakeholders


Preferred Qualifications

Certifications, such as the trusted tester certification, IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification or an equivalent program, are preferred.
Demonstrated passion for accessibility advocacy
Experience with internal policy generation and governance
Experience with developing and delivering training workshops
Experience with digital content remediation (PDF, PowerPoint, Word, email, etc.)
Experience providing direct end-user support
Experience overseeing a help desk environment and support team
Accessibility consulting experience
Knowledge in accessibility regulation, litigation, and complaints
Advanced knowledge and experience with web technologies (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, XML, and CMS) and Familiarity with modern web application development practices and popular JavaScript frameworks
Familiarity with scripting languages desirable
Familiarity with mobile accessibility on various platforms including Android and IOS
Familiarity with Content/Learning Management Systems (i.e. Drupal, WordPress, Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.) and related accessibility plugins
Knowledge and experience in captioning, audio descriptions, and other media-related accessibility concepts and tools is preferred


Equipment Utilized

Knowledge and experience with web content management systems (Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla)
Knowledge and experience with assistive technologies (JAWS, VoiceOver, Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
Experience with web accessibility testing tools like Deque AXE Monitor, Compliance Sheriff, etc.
Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, and/or other management tools

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
