Associate Accessibility Specialist Software Engineer

Digital Associate Accessibility Team is seeking a passionate software engineer with solid full-stack development experience to join our team. Seeking for a candidate with good background in accessibility testing, excellent leadership skills, building out programs from the ground up, and excellent interpersonal skills. You will have good experience in Full Stack Development, Accessibility Integration & Development. This role offers you the opportunity to showcase your skills in verifying adherence to the W3C WCAG 2.1 standards and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508, and other related laws.





As an Associate Accessibility Specialist Software Engineer in Digital Accessibility Team, embark on a rewarding career path. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our internally developed applications, with a good focus on ensuring they are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. You will have robust experience in both front-end and back-end development, coupled with an understanding of and passion for accessibility standards and best practices and an ability to foresee how the creation of well-designed testing tools and processes can improve the accessibility of the firm’s products.







Job responsibilities

Develop, design and implement scalable, integrated, and accessible web-based applications across the full stack.
Write code, clean, and efficient, well-documented code for both client-side and server-side components.
Integrate and manage databases, APIs, and other backend services. Troubleshoot and debug issues across the entire application stack.
Understand firmwide control procedures and navigate and leverage the firm’s engineering resources.
Build accessibility directly into the development lifecycle, adhering to WCAG guidelines from conception to deployment.
Implement accessible UI components and design patterns for an inclusive user experience. Conduct code reviews to improve accessibility new ideas are followed by the development team.
Proactively identify and remediate accessibility issues within existing and new codebases. Collaborate with accessibility testers and team members to understand findings and implement effective solutions.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and quality assurance, to define requirements and deliver high-quality, accessible solutions.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship on accessibility development techniques to other developers and documentation writers.
Participate in architectural discussions, offering insights into design and implementation that maintains accessibility. Stay current with emerging full stack technologies, frameworks, and accessibility standards.
Research and propose innovative solutions and integrations to enhance the performance, utility, and accessibility of our applications. Contribute to the continuous improvement of our testing processes and tools.



Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Possess 2+ years of relevant experience in full stack development.
Good proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (for example React and/or modern front-end frameworks).
Solid experience with back-end languages and frameworks (for example Node.js, Python).
Experience with database design and management (for example SQL and NoSQL database systems).
Proven ability to integrate ARIA and other accessibility-focused technologies into development.
Ability to proactively identify and resolve accessibility issues at the code level.
Experience with version control systems (for example Git).





Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Knowledge of Java and Windows shell scripting is a plus, as is interest in native app development (iOS and Android).
Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Familiarity with agile development methodologies and working in JIRA or similar project management tools.
Understanding of data analytics concepts, especially data metrics, statistics, measurement.
Understanding of assistive technologies (for example screen readers, magnifiers) and their impact on development.
