Job Description:

Fredonia is expanding the number of online courses and programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Instructional Technology Accessibility Coordinator is needed to ensure that these courses and programs are accessible according to WCAG and ADA standards. This position will train and support faculty in developing accessible courses and course material, assist with evaluating campus wide technologies for accessibility, and work with faculty and students in using assistive technology.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

Reporting to the Coordinator of Disability Support Services, the successful candidate will:

Create and offer in-person and online training related to accessibility issues for online instructors;
Assist the campus Instructional Designer in the creation of accessible course templates to be used campus wide and modified for specific online programs;
Create the accessibility standards that will be added to the online course review process prior to course approval;
Create guidelines and offer workshops for instructors to use assisting them in creating and sharing accessible content with an emphasis on the Microsoft Office Suite;
Make recommendations on assistive technology purchases, closed captioning planning and budgeting, and other resources needed to assist students completing online courses;
Offer training and resources to assist students and faculty in using assistive technology; and share these resources across the SUNY system;
Test online courses during the online course approval process to assure course accessibility;
Assist in creating a process for evaluating accessibility of hardware and software prior to purchase;
Identify the online campus accessibility needs including evaluating current campus assistive technology;
Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution;
Experience in using Microsoft Office to create accessible files;
Experience in creating closed captioning and/or transcripts;
Demonstrated understanding of pedagogical issues related to technology enhanced teaching, learning, and accessibility;
Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;
Experience with instructional technology;
Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience using the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework;
2+ years working within higher education;
2+ years working directly with faculty and students supporting assistive technology;
Experience teaching or learning online;
Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.


Additional Information:

This is a full-time, term appointed (permanent-track), UUP-represented Instructional Support Technician (SL3) position beginning June 2018
