Fully Remote TVI Position in Michigan

### **Job Title:** Remote Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
**Location:** Remote (Serving K–12 students across Michigan)
**Employment Type:** Full-Time 1099 Contract
### **Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments via virtual platforms
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials into accessible formats, including large print, Braille, digital, and audio
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education teams, and families to support access to learning
- Conduct virtual functional vision assessments and learning media assessments as needed
- Participate in IEP development, team meetings, and progress monitoring in compliance with **Michigan Department of Education (MDE)** and **IDEA** requirements
- Recommend and train students and staff in the use of assistive technology, low vision tools, and accessible software
- Support development of students’ compensatory skills, including organization, orientation and mobility collaboration, and independent living skills (when appropriate)
- Maintain accurate documentation of services, assessments, and communications in accordance with school and state policies
- Stay current on best practices, tools, and legal updates related to visual impairment education and remote instruction
### **Required Qualifications:**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or Special Education with TVI endorsement
- Valid **Michigan teaching certification** with an endorsement as a **Teacher of the Visually Impaired (SK or SE)**
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in a school-based setting (remote experience a plus)
- Strong knowledge of Braille, accessible educational tools, and assistive technology
- Ability to work effectively in a remote learning environment using video conferencing and digital platforms
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Reliable internet connection and a private, professional home office setup
### **Preferred Qualifications:**
- Proficiency in Unified English Braille (UEB) and use of Braille translation software (e.g., Duxbury)
- Experience with digital tools such as JAWS, NVDA, ZoomText, VoiceOver, and screen magnifiers
- Familiarity with Michigan-specific IEP and compliance systems (e.g., IEP Connect, PowerSchool, Frontline)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Experience working with students who have multiple disabilities
