We are a new team of hardworking engineers dedicated to making Twitter accessible to everyone. Our mission is to make Twitter work for anyone, anywhere with any assistive technology. We will remove the barriers that today inhibit people around the globe from participating in the public conversation on Twitter. Public conversation is important because it helps people learn, tackle problems, and realize we’re all in this together. And like the Internet, public conversation is better when it is diverse and inclusive of more people.

What You'll Do:

We believe passion and personality matter. As such, we need someone who can lead diverse, smart, and driven engineers to define, and build accessibility into Twitter’s product and software development life cycle while balancing personnel challenges with business requirements. As an Accessibility Engineering Manager you will:

Lead and grow a diverse team of accessibility software development engineers

Be an ambitious source of engineering talent and be comfortable closing candidates

Collaborate with engineering teams, product, design and research to define accessibility requirements and acceptance criteria

Contribute to the development and integration of accessibility into the product and software development process

Provide guidance to management on overall digital accessibility program needs

Mentor the professional development of each direct report through personal and performance management.

Give engineers the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to the recognition of your engineers and not just yourself.

Our ultimate goal is to consistently improve accessibility at Twitter, so it’s imperative that the engineering manager:

Be responsible for the group’s technical strategy and roadmap – creating success metrics in close collaboration with other Engineering and Product Managers.

Brings a strong perspective that inspires change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to sophisticated problems.

Works with tech leads and senior engineers to gather requirements, gut checks new feature proposals and large improvements to ensure accessibility standards are met.

Has the technical capacity to partner with tech leads and is comfortable diving into the fray to help drive resolution in the case of bad incidents.

Who You Are:

You are an experienced accessibility client engineering manager looking to make Twitter one of the best accessible experiences out there. You're someone who excels at user-centric product development and has a real passion for making beautiful, smooth, and fabulous accessible experiences.

You are customer-focused and understand that shipping accessible impactful software involves trade-offs and collaboration.

You want to apply your knowledge of accessibility to work cross functionally to ensure an accessible experience for millions of users.

You have a deep interest and understanding of accessibility standard methodologies and trends related to consumer products.

You are a successful engineering manager who communicates daring to build trust. We need leaders who take active roles in shaping the future of Twitter engineering while embodying our core values. This means the manager will:

Initiate multi-functional collaboration with Backend, Product and Design to develop high quality, focused accessible products (and inspire your team to independently initiate this same collaboration).

Seek diverse perspectives to drive bottom-up accessible innovation and create consensus from all technical partners inside and outside the team.

Develop a sophisticated understanding of Twitter’s developer community and processes. Be a strong advocate for your platform and make thoughtful changes to improve communication and collaboration of developers across teams.
