Colorado Legislative Council Staff, is the nonpartisan research agency of the Colorado General Assembly, the legislative branch of the State of Colorado. Legislative Information Services, the IT team within Legislative Council Staff, is responsible for developing and maintaining all information and technology systems used by legislators and legislative staff.

About the Position
We’re seeking a Senior Accessibility Analyst to be a part of our team to develop and lead the accessibility compliance effort for the Colorado General Assembly. As a team member, you will make a direct impact on the future of legislative engagement in the accessibility community through bringing new and existing software applications and the Colorado Legislature’s website into compliance. Within this unique organization you will experience challenging work while directly contributing to the betterment of Colorado.

The Colorado Legislature has numerous internal and public facing applications, hardware, and its official website requiring accessibility audits, remediation, and accommodation.

Your tasks and responsibilities in this position:

Further develop, refine, and implement the Colorado Legislature’s accessibility plan
Communicate accessibility plan progress and risks to management, key stakeholders, agency directors and legislators
Help determine the tools, training, and resources needed to achieve accessibility compliance
Provide in-house expertise on WCAG 2.1 & OIT (Office of Information Technology) accessibility standards
Test for compliance, identify, and prioritize fixes while empowering others to do the same
Establish and perform accessibility compliance officer roles and duties
Provide technical assistance with content remediation and accommodation efforts with multifunctional teams
Work with application development teams during development and remediation efforts while establishing and implementing processes
Assist, train, and guide legislative staff to produce accessible content
Oversee accessibility audits and consulting work with accessibility vendors
Incorporate accessibility in the procurement process with vendor management, product evaluation, and oversight
Effectively communicate accessibility standards and requirements with the software development team, key stakeholders, and management
Advocate for, and build rapport with, accessibility community users - proposing and vetting ideas, solutions for their benefit
Be an effective liaison and advocate for the legislature with OIT’s and other accessibility teams



Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

About You
Your educational background is a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent work experience. You have worked in, or have significant exposure to, accessibility remediation and compliance and have relevant experience to show for it.
You shall demonstrate the following traits:

Technical Skills/Knowledge/Experience you possess:

Strong strategic and critical thinking skills
Technical aptitude and interest for working with software applications
Experience with front-end languages such as HTML and CSS
Experience using common assistive technologies, including screen readers, magnifiers, and voice recognition software products
Experience conducting accessibility testing on multiple platform and devices, including iOS and Android mobile devices as well as mobile websites and applications
Experience using automated accessibility testing tools such as Siteimprove, etc.
Deep understanding of accessibility and usability needs

Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to present work effectively
Effective and concise writing skills adapted to the audience
Keen listening, comprehension, deduction, and retention of essential details and nuances
CPACC and or other IAAP certifications are preferred
3+ years of experience in the accessibility discipline
Prior experience working with the disability community is preferred

Supplemental Information

Salary And Benefits
The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 per year, with salary level within this range commensurate with education and experience. Legislative Council Staff employees are not members of the state personnel system.
