Subject Matter Expert: Section 508 Regulations and Digital Accessibility
Location: Baltimore/DC Area

The Section 508 and Accessibility Subject Matter Expert will help ensure accessibility of technology for people with disabilities in a federal agency setting with an emphasis on accessibility of web technologies and guidelines, as well as working knowledge of JAWS, for windows, screen reader. The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi-task a variety of demanding assignments without a degradation of work quality.

About You…
- Located in the Baltimore/DC area and has the ability to be onsite as requested (~1 day notice)
- Working knowledge of both JAWS and NVDA
- Knowledge of and experience with using, configuring, and scripting JAWS
- Extensive experience as a tester, with the ability to leverage knowledge of assistive technologies to support and troubleshoot other ASB testing
activities
- Clear understanding of both Section 508 compliance and WCAG 2
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Ability to produce detailed and accurate documentation
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent decision making and analytical skills
- Excellent written and oral communications
- Detail oriented with ability to pay attention to minute details for a project or task
- Self- motivated with the ability to multitask

Responsibilities:
Assistive Technologies (30%)
- Analyze, determine root cause, delegate development issues, user training issues, and self-assign assistive technology issues (JAWS, MAGic/Zoomtext,
and Dragon)
- Prepare and report issues with assistive technology and the respective manufacturer (through OHE with Dragon/Voice Computer issues)
- Build HTML/CSS/JavaScript examples to accompany bug reports
- Maintain example repository for assistive technology and update regression testing
- Monitor and facilitate resolution of previously reported JAWS bugs
- Support client with the use of the following:
- JAWS assistive technology (including JAWS for kiosks)
- Fusion, Dragon, Magic and ZoomText assistive technologies
- Assistive technologies to test mobile and touch-based interfaces
Cross Component Coordination (10%)
- Facilitate weekly inter-group meeting on Assistive Technology
- Assist ASB, CADS, and OHE investigate user issues for root cause
- Recommend AT usability improvements for client applications
- Recommend alternative user guidance and AT configurations
Accessibility Testing/General ASB Support (60%)
- Conduct accessibility testing on client applications

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree/relevant experience
