We are excited to announce a new IT Technician role which will focus on resolving Accessibility issues faced by our disabled members of staff. You will be dedicated to improving IT support for disabled staff, providing frontline support either directly or through engaging with the relevant teams, to enable solutions and provide direct support to staff who use Assistive Technology.

You will work in the IT&D Digital service and have access to a wealth of IT expertise and support from your IT colleagues. Your customers will be based across the three councils of the Orbis Partnership – Surrey County Council, East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council. Travel will be required between the councils sites so a vehicle and driving license will be a compulsory requirement of the role.

It is important that you can readily recognise where you are not the expert, and the take time to understand the needs of the customer, being always professional and empathetic. When problems arise with Assistive Technology you will be aware on how this can impact the customer and take the appropriate steps to help address the issue.

Working with the IT Accessibility Specialist, you will help to create the best practice for working with disabled customers and look to ways in how the current support processes could be improved.

You will engage with Disability Forums within the individual Councils and provide training material and user guides as well as technical guides for your IT colleagues.

Key to this role is the ability to engage with people and listen, be a good communicator and proactive in finding solutions, and where not immediate in coming, maintain a level of communication with the customer throughout the process.

Empathetic and has a passion for enabling others to get the most out of their technology
Is proactive, sociable, and friendly in nature
Capable of using plain English to explain complex concepts or technology features
A good listener
Demonstrate awareness of the different assistive technologies and how they function
Have an understanding and awareness of disability and how this can impact on IT use
Triage, support and resolve technical issues.
