Role
Your primary task will be to ensure the University digital materials and tools are compliant with PSBAR regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
You will understand the WCAG guidelines and PSBAR regulations. Use assistive technology and techniques to do accessibility audits on existing services and as part of software procurement. Your goal is to ensure compliance with accessibility regulations and best practice. You will report on issues found and remedy them as needed.
Provide technical support to the University. You will answer queries that arrive via forums, phone, email or the online Help Desk. You will prioritise queries and respond within agreed timeframes and to quality standards. You will offer guidance on issues covering web technology, design, usability and accessibility.
You will take part in testing and troubleshooting new features and services. You may need to assist with web page creation. This work is usually the implementation of ready-made layouts and designs. Sometimes you may need to design new materials from scratch.
Guide departments on inclusive design and how to keep digital materials to a high standard. You will help individuals to become more confident and inclusive producers online. All our team members understand user experience and advocate for the end-user. We do this by matching user needs with good user journeys.
Skills and experience
A good first degree or equivalent provable knowledge, preferably in a relevant IT, computing or technical area
High-level communication skills, including sound oral and written presentation skills
Understanding of current accessibility regulations and tools
Knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in the practical application of web technology to academic departments within the higher education sector.
High-level analytical, problem-solving and design and/or implementation skills.
Knowledge of User Experience
Desirable is prior use of our bespoke CMS
Knowledge of CSS and HTML for editing/creating web pages
Sound team-working ability
Excellent planning, management and coordination skills
