We are looking for a part-time Digital Accessibility Specialist for a ~4 month remote contract.

- Hours: Part time- up to 30 hours per week
- Schedule: Flexible part-time shifts (remote) split between mornings, evenings and _some_ weekends.
- Hourly Rate: Up to $30/hr.

Position Summary

The Digital Accessibility Specialist supports Academic Affairs by ensuring that all digital instructional materials meet federal accessibility requirements and accreditation standards. This role provides hands?on assistance to faculty and staff with document remediation and the use of accessibility tools. The position is project?based, remote, and focused on improving accessibility across instructional content and learning management systems (LMS)

Key Responsibilities

Accessibility Support & Remediation

- Remediate digital instructional materials—including Word documents, PDFs, presentations, and LMS content—to ensure full accessibility for students.
- Review courses in the Learning Management System (e.g., D2L or similar platforms) and perform accessibility checks and content updates.
- Convert complex documents into accessible formats, including correcting structure, tagging, headings, alt text, and formatting issues.

Faculty & Staff Assistance

- Provide direct support and guidance to faculty and staff on accessibility best practices and compliance expectations.
- Assist users with accessibility-related tools and platforms (e.g., YuJa, Grackle, MS suites, Google Suites, or comparable software), including basic troubleshooting and training.

Collaboration & Workflow Management

- Work collaboratively with Academic Affairs leadership, instructional designers, IT teams, and other partners to support accessibility workflows.
- Manage and respond to accessibility-related support tickets and escalate technical issues when needed.

Process Documentation & Participation

- Help develop and maintain documentation, guidelines, and workflow instructions to ensure consistent accessibility practices.
- Participate in meetings, trainings, and project planning sessions related to accessibility initiatives.
- Track time, tasks, and project progress in accordance with departmental expectations.

Professional Conduct

- Maintain confidentiality when working with faculty materials, student content, and institutional data.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support accessibility, compliance, and academic operations.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, information technology, communications, or a related field — or equivalent experience of at least 2+ years.
- Experience with digital accessibility, instructional technology, or document remediation.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG and familiarity with common accessibility tools.
- Experience using learning management systems and productivity platforms (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Grackle, etc.).
- Strong technical, organizational, and problem?solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to work with users of varying technical backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a fully remote environment.
