Johnson & Johnson Technology (JJT) is currently recruiting for a Senior Director, Experience Design (XD) to lead the enterprise-wide design organization. At JJT, we shape the future of healthcare by unlocking the power of people, technology, and insights. We collaborate as trusted allies across functions, sectors, and regions to align business strategies with technology solutions that drive outcomes that matter and experiences that delight.
This role will lead the JJT Experience Design chapter, partnering across J&J’s Innovative Medicine, MedTech, Corporate Functions, and international regions to craft innovative digital experiences and capabilities that are relentlessly people-centric. From guiding patients through treatment to enabling employees to work seamlessly from anywhere, our digital tools infuse our products with novelty, dexterity, and ease.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Design Leadership
Operate as a strategic leader to drive the JJT XD strategy, service model, and roadmap in alignment with the JJT High-Performing Teams Operating Model.
Define and evolve the enterprise experience design strategy in alignment with J&J’s business priorities and values.
Lead and accelerate the growth of the XD chapter and its branches to mature JJT into a truly design-led and people-centric organization.
Present and advocate the vision and strategy for JJT Enterprise XD to senior leadership.
Execute strategic partner utilization for elastic demand leveraging key strategic vendors.
Cross-Business & Functional Collaboration
Partner with leaders across MedTech, Innovative Medicine, HR, Quality, Legal, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Tech Services, Information Security, and more to co-create integrated, scalable experience solutions.
Experiment with federated capabilities with international regions to leverage XD synergy, standards while supporting expansion aspirations.
Facilitate alignment across diverse stakeholder groups through design sprints, workshops, and co-creation sessions.
Collaborate closely with JJT leadership to build business cases for investments in XD.
Experience Design Execution
Lead a multi-faceted team of XD professionals to build design artifacts: personas, customer journeys, service blueprints, prototypes, and storyboards.
Oversee the development of journey maps, service blueprints, and experience frameworks across employee and customer touchpoints.
Deliver and manage Experience Design Products and Solutions including the Global Design System and XD tooling.
Build and scale a DesignOps function to standardize tools, manage staffing, and measure impact.
Ensure digital accessibility principles are embedded in all design outputs.
Team Leadership & Development
Attract, hire, and retain superior design talent to support product teams across functions, regions, and sectors.
Guide and mentor XD leaders, designers, and non-designers to support development and upskill design thinking capabilities.
Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Establish career latticing structures and professional development pathways for design talent.
Measurement & Impact
Lead and facilitate the by business unit/function Quarterly Business Reviews to ensure correct prioritization, objectives and key results.
Establish KPIs and feedback loops to measure experience outcomes and continuously improve.
Leverage data, insights, and storytelling to demonstrate the value of design to senior leadership.
Evolve, conceptualize, and communicate new insights using storytelling techniques.
Drive adoption of experience design practices across the enterprise.
Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in any of the following: Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Technology, Engineering, Digital Product Management, or a related field/experiences.
15+ years of experience in user experience design, interaction design, or related roles, with at least 5 years working with or leading Experience Design teams and managers.
Proven success in shaping design organizations and building high-performing design teams.
Experience crafting shared platforms, service-based teams, or Centers of Excellence.
Advanced knowledge of information architecture, interaction design, and user-centered design principles.
Strong blend of business strategy, technology experience, and human-centered design.
Ability to simplify complex concepts for non-technical audiences.
Intellectual curiosity and awareness of industry trends in digital experience design.
Strong decision-making, consulting, and executive-level communication skills.
Experience leading design capabilities in a product-focused technology organization.
Collaborative leader who influences results and builds strong, inclusive teams.
Ability to lead projects, strategic supplier RFPs, and manage digital products
