Job Summary

The Project Leader, Digital Accessibility will advocate for digital accessibility, and lead initiatives to ensure that digital experiences on Mississauga.ca are accessible and reflect the diverse needs of the people of Mississauga. This role will oversee multiple projects of varying scope, producing outcomes that comply with accessibility best practices and international standards - (WCAG 2.0 AA) and (PDF/UA).

This will be a key role responsible for the creation of an accessible digital content program, to ensure our public documents always meet accessibility standards and Ontario statutory requirements for the public sector. We’re looking for an individual with a passion for accessibility standards, with a combination of business and technical skills, who is committed to ensuring that digital experiences are accessible for all.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties

Lead projects in partnership with the appropriate City staff, stakeholders, vendors and the Digital Strategy & Experience (DSX) team. Duties include:

Establish standards, guidelines, best practices, processes and frameworks for implementing, and sustaining accessible documents across the Mississauga.ca platform
Engage the community of persons with disabilities and the City’s Accessibility Office to understand digital accessibility experiences and to advocate for accessible needs
Support the City’s regulatory compliance requirements and reporting
Manage quality assurance processes, approvals and communications
Lead necessary procurements and vendor management processes
Lead the discovery and documentation of business requirements, user needs, functional and non-functional requirements
Lead information gathering and business requirements sessions, in collaboration with Product Owners, UX Designers, Content Consultants, and stakeholders
Regularly report project issues and risk assessments by preparing updates and reports to the Manager, Director, and relevant Steering Committees
Lead project teams with indirect reporting structures, monitoring performance and delegating assignments to team members
Educate clients, stakeholders and technical staff on best practice methodology for accessible design, measures of performance, and product strategies
Partner with product teams to execute digital product development, supporting the requirements gathering, implementation and delivery phases
Manage stakeholders, and inform and influence key decision makers
Collaborate with technical staff to achieve key operational performance metrics including Voice of the Customer, outcomes for AODA compliance, and quality assurance measures
Act as the primary resource and liaison to clients and corporate partners and be accountable for all project deliverables for assigned projects
Develop time schedules, budget and cost controls and project documentation including project charters, project plans, and other related artifacts
Keep up to date on advancements to local, national, and international best practices for accessibility, with a view to guiding the vision for the City’s digital products
Perform other duties as assigned

Skills And Qualifications

Post-Secondary education or professional designation in an accessibility related field, with a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of digital accessibility regulations, guidelines and standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0 AA) and the Portable Document Format/Universal Accessibility (PDF/UA)
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and the functional requirements of individuals with different types of disabilities
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI)
2+ years defining and leading an enterprise accessibility program an asset
Working knowledge of accessibility technologies and disability related issues for online experiences
High level awareness of related disciplines of User Experience Design, Service design, and web development technologies
Demonstrated experience in the preparation of reports, plans, business requirement specifications, procurement documents, and presentations
Experience managing stakeholder relations, external consultants, using project management principles, and conducting primary and secondary research and data analysis
Advanced communication and presentation skills both written and verbal
Strong interpersonal, facilitation and negotiation skills to gain consensus through collaboration and relationship building; at ease working with both technical and business teams
Ability to self-manage competing demands in a timely and organized fashion while maintaining a professional level of dependability with sound judgement and decision-making skills
Knowledge of human centred design principles, Agile and Business Analysis are an asset
Experience in Municipal or other Government settings is preferred

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 85,155.00 - $ 113,541.00

Hours of Work: 35
