Summary:

The Accommodations and Accessibility Specialist supports veteran and military-affiliated students, by delivering individualized accommodation services. This position plays a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to academic success by assisting in the development of the healthcare and support infrastructure needed to thrive in their coursework.

This role requires an understanding of disability services, with preference given to candidates who have prior experience working with veterans in a higher education environment. The Specialist must provide both in-person and occasional virtual support, based on student needs.

Note: This position is grant-funded. Continuation is contingent upon the availability of funds. If grant funding ceases, the position may be terminated without cause upon written notice.



Qualifications:

1–3 years of experience working with students with disabilities in higher education or a comparable setting
Familiarity with ADA, Section 504, and disability-related compliance in educational settings - a plus
Basic computer proficiency
Strong written and verbal communication
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated understanding of physical, cognitive, sensory, and psychological disabilities and their impact on academic functioning
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with college personnel
Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of college students
Willingness to assist MCNY’s Manager of Accommodations and Accessibility Services with departmental functions as needed
Adherence to policies and procedures related to safety and confidentiality
Punctuality, dependability, and accountability in all assigned tasks
Sedentary work, occasionally lifting to 10 pounds
Frequent movement within workspaces to assist students
Regular use of computer equipment and software
Extended screen time for documentation and virtual meetings
Frequent interaction with students, staff, and faculty requiring active listening and communication
Flexibility to attend training sessions assigned by supervisor
Requirements:

Associate’s degree required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Special Education, Clinical Psychology, or a related field
Work Schedule

Up to 19–20 hours per week
Work 42 weeks a year (off during semester breaks)
Must be available at least three (3) days per week
In-person work required, with occasional virtual meetings based on student availability
This is not a remote position
