Job Summary/Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Compliance and Ethics, and in close consultation with the University’s ADA Coordinator and Director of University Web Strategy, the Deputy ADA Coordinator for Digital Accessibility will lead the university's digital accessibility compliance efforts while exercising a high level of decision making and autonomy; provide strategic leadership, oversight, and technical advice to campus units in developing and implementing policy requirements such as digital access strategies, reporting, training, purchasing standards/controls and Equally Effective Alternative Access Plans; advise on changes to the Boise State Web Accessibility Standards; in collaboration with key stakeholders leads the evaluation of high risk digital information and services being developed, considered for purchase, or implemented on campus for compliance with the university's accessibility policies; assists campus units in understanding their obligations under University accessibility policies and guides developers and vendors of digital content, services, and applications on accessible design and development practices; in collaboration with the Director of the Educational Access Center, promptly responds to feedback and concerns (both formal and informal) regarding the accessibility of University owned or controlled digital information; supports decision-making around the selection and implementation of campus-wide accessibility tools and training; and maintains knowledge of current and emerging accessible development practices and trends.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Lead the University Digital Accessibility Committee.
Review vendor and 3rd party VPATs and conduct manual testing of technologies during the University procurement process utilizing assistive technologies software applications (JAWS, ZoomText, VoiceOver).
Coordinate review with the University’s Software and Accessibility Review Board (SARB) process manager.
Monitor university digital systems and communications for compliance with federal accessibility laws and university accessibility standards.
Work with appropriate parties to remediate any accessibility issues identified during monitoring processes.
Support website administrators’ understanding and compliance with applicable laws and policies through training and one-on-one assistance
Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of University Web Strategy to ensure University-wide reach and Office of Information Technology support.
Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology to audit, test, and establish technical specifications to bring all internally built web applications up to current accessibility standards.
Stays abreast of accessibility technology and trends both within the University, academia in general, and the IT industry.
Develops and maintains digital materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate information regarding the digital accessibility under ADA and university policies pertaining to persons with disabilities.
Support various university departments in the development and implementation of equally effective access alternative action plans.
Support the resolution of complaints, concerns or feedback filed with the University regarding digital accessibility of University owned or controlled information.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of assistive technologies and best practices for utilizing such technologies.
Expertise in disability service delivery.
Thorough understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and WCAG 2.x Level A-AAA standards.
Experience with manual testing and evaluation processes to assess digital accessibility.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Solid presentation and training experience.
Experience building relationships across a broad range of system units with varying technological needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or a related field or equivalent combination of educational and professional experience, and 5 years of professional experience in an accessibility field or equivalent relevant experience.

Salary and Benefit s:

Salary range $67,500-$75,000/yr; commensurate with experience.
