Job Title: Senior Developer – eBook Conversion (Accessibility Expert)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Developer specializing in eBook Conversion and Accessibility Compliance to join our dynamic publishing technology team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of eBook formats (EPUB, MOBI, PDF), accessibility standards (WCAG, EPUB Accessibility 1.1, EAA), and conversion workflows to deliver high-quality, accessible digital content for global clients.


Key Responsibilities:

Lead end-to-end eBook conversion projects from print or digital formats to EPUB3, MOBI, and accessible PDFs.
Implement accessibility features in eBooks to comply with WCAG 2.1, EPUB Accessibility 1.1, and industry best practices.
Validate and troubleshoot files using tools such as Ace by DAISY, EPUBCheck, and screen readers.
Optimize workflows for Fixed Layout (FLEPUB) and Reflowable EPUB conversions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (typesetting, QA, and client teams) to ensure quality and timely delivery.
Stay updated on accessibility guidelines, emerging technologies, and global compliance requirements (e.g., EU Accessibility Act).
Mentor junior developers and contribute to process improvement initiatives.


Required Skills & Expertise:

5+ years of experience in eBook conversion (EPUB2, EPUB3, MOBI, accessible PDFs).
Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and XML workflows for digital publishing.
Hands-on experience in accessibility implementation and validation tools (Ace by DAISY, EPUBCheck, NVDA, JAWS).
Familiarity with accessibility metadata, semantic structuring, and ARIA roles in eBooks.
Expertise in handling Fixed Layout and Reflowable eBooks, interactive elements, and MathML.
Good understanding of publishing standards (IDPF, W3C, BISG Accessibility Guidelines).
Ability to troubleshoot issues across multiple platforms and reading systems.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with InDesign-based workflows and scripting for automation.
Knowledge of ONIX metadata standards and distribution requirements.
Familiarity with DAISY, Braille-ready formats, and audio synchronization.
