Web Accessibility Tester - UK only

Tenure: Freelance
Hours: Circa 15 – 30 hours per week, as required
Location: Brighton / Hybrid
Salary: £200 - £225 per day

Role Summary:
We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Accessibility Tester to join our talented freelance team.
The successful candidate will work across the business to ensure the bespoke digital interventions that we produce for our clients are designed and tested for the highest levels of accessibility and inclusivity.
This is a freelance role within our Quality Assurance team.

Responsibilities:
Your main responsibilities will include:
• Day to day accessibility testing of content and functionality (against WCAG guidelines) in both bespoke HTML5 and other proprietary frameworks (e.g. Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise).
• Evaluating existing accessibility test plans and/or creating new test plans.
• Experience working with Cypress or Deque in a developer testing workflow such as VS Code. Node JS is preferred.
• Analysing test results and making recommendations for improvements.
• Articulating WCAG 2.1 AA standards to technical and non-technical personnel and providing expert guidance on accessible design.
• Reviewing our requirements and specifications documentation to ensure that accessibility is part of the solution design, articulate issues where they are present and help find sustainable solutions to accessibility challenges. Use judgment to make balanced decisions.
• Working closely with the Quality Manager or Accessibility Manager to review & update accessibility processes and support in the creation of process documentation.
• Advancing the role of Accessible Design and improving overall adherence to WCAG 2.1 AA standards and above.

Skills and Experience:

You’ll need:
• To show that you have worked in a similar role for at least two years, ideally in a fast-paced, agency environment.
• Demonstrable skills & experience using Jira for raising tickets and workflow management.
• To demonstrate excellent knowledge of accessibility standards up to WCAG2.1 AA.
• To perform detailed testing of digital materials across a variety of devices, clearly document your findings and articulate how to solve problems.
• Demonstratable evidence that you have a high level of expertise using JAWS (and ideally other assistive technologies).
• Evidence of working with web technologies - JavaScript, HTML, CSS and ideally ARIA.
• To be confident working through testing activities as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• To be a confident communicator, able to clearly articulate functional specs for non-technical and technical team members.
• Experience working in a fast-paced agency, managing multiple workstreams in a deadline driven environment.
• To demonstrate knowledge of automated testing tools, including Deque, Cypress or Playwright.
