Scope of Job
Provide expert analysis to Information Technology (IT) and other campus departments with digital accessibility consultation, research, review, and recommendations. Provide guidance on user interface and interactivity in the context of providing a user experience that is not only accessible but also allows for productive use by all audiences. Provide the technical expertise needed to answer questions posed by the Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity, Student Accessibility Services, Human Resources and Legal Affairs.

Description of Duties

Reviews Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPAT) for applications under development or considered for procurement.
Provides technical guidance as part of the campus initiative to make technology platforms compliant with State of Texas and Federal standards.
Supports implementation of the University of Texas Rio Grande (UTRGV) digital accessibility program.
Participates in procurement reviews of campus technologies.
Conducts code level and screen reader based digital accessibility audits and provide guidance to developers on and off campus.
Develops digital accessibility education materials and educates the UTRGV community about digital accessibility and furthers the digital experience mission.
Participates in campus workgroups and committees when a digital accessibility expert is needed.
Develops and provides trainings as needed.
Serves as the IT representative on the Electronic Information Resources (EIR) Committee providing assistance to UTRGV stakeholders related to IT needs of sought after EIR.
Performs manual scans of web pages and resolves accessibility concerns.
Manages various accessibility-related special projects.
Performs other duties as assigned or approved by the supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited University.

Preferred Education
Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited University.

Licenses/Certifications
Within one year of hiring must get DHS Trusted Tester Certification, or IAAP CPACC or WAS.

Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience in technology analysis support or development including participation in digital accessibility tasks.

Preferred Experience

Advanced skills in use of a range of accessibility OS features, accessibility auditing software and assistive technologies.
Advanced understanding of federal and state laws regarding digital accessibility.
Advanced understanding of the WCAG 2.1 AA or most recent standard for web accessibility.
Advanced understanding of captioning and transcription technology and guidelines.
Advanced understanding of PDF accessibility and remediation.
Functional understanding of the accessibility tree, Aria code and other coding standards that produce well-built accessible web content and applications.


Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment and can be performed remote. If the work is performed remote high-speed internet and a designated workspace are required.

Other
Excellent communication skills. Experience working in a time-sensitive role while simultaneously handling multiple projects.
