Department Summary
Growth in HSC’s online learning presence in multiple areas has prompted the restructuring of the Departments for the Center of Innovative Learning and INCEDO (continuing medical education) into one Division of Academic Innovation. This new division leads online learning, traditional courses, faculty and staff development in education, and continuing education credit for clinicians participating in our activities.

Position Overview
The Digital Accessibility Specialist assists the Educational Development team in the Division of Academic Innovation, as well as online, microcredential, and continuing education faculty and subject matter experts by reviewing, revising, and remediating online course content and digital materials to be ADA compliant and functionally accessible to all learners, including learners with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education and three years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in digital accessibility such as CPACC, TxDLA Digital Accessibility Specialist Certification, or similar.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrable knowledge of UDL principles, WAI-ARIA and WCAG 2.1 guidelines, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and/or assistive technology

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Curriculum & Instruction, Disability Studies or a related field
Familiarity with Canvas Learning Management System


Required License / Registration / Certification

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm on campus with flexible work arrangement available. Occasional remote work may be available.

Ensures that microcredentials and continuing education experiences designed with the assistance of the Division of Academic Innovation are accessible to learners with a wide range of disabilities and learning needs

Conducts accessibility reviews of digital learning materials


o

Delivers training to faculty, staff, and other stakeholders on campus on the accessibility of digital materials
