Senior Engineer – Accessibility Engineering Lead

As an engineeron the accessibility team, you’ll be focused on working closely with product designers, engineering, and product managersto proactively identifyaccessibility gaps in existing product designs,design deliverables, and implementations.You will also play a key role in recommending solutions for product teams facing hurdles in meeting accessibility standards.Youshould have a passion foreducation, evangelism, and building a community ofengineersand product managersfocused oninclusive design and accessible products. An ability to clearly communicate best practices and accessibility standardsis a must.

To strengthen this commitment and streamline our efforts and impact, we’re building a dedicated and independent accessibility team within the design platform team working closely with our design ops and design system teams as well as engineering and product management teams across the company.

What you’ll be doing:

Work with the Accessibility Team Lead to establishan accessibility team within VMware working closely with our design system, design ops, and the rest of the product design team.
Build a central source of truth for education, training, and certification around accessibility for designers, engineers, and product managers.
Collaborate closely with product designers, product managers, and engineersto better understand the types of experiences we’rebuilding. Your goal should be not just to inject accessibility in but to make sure it is at the foundation of what we do. We should build better products because of accessibility not just looking to adhere to a set of basic guidelines.
Educate, advise, and document best practices.
Investigate, champion, and – in some cases – build tools for product teams that can help them identify accessibility gaps during implementation, as well as being an advocate for proactive measures in addressing accessibility.
Work closely withtechnologists, as well as the wider team, to create a movement for accessibility within VMware. Your focus will be on creating “accessibility champions” across the company who understand the role accessibility plays in building better products andhave the ability tochannel you and your team in their own product teams.

The skills:

You're an experiencedcollaborator capable of working with designers, product managers, and technologists
You have an expert knowledge in accessibility that extends beyond basic 508c compliance to the creation of delightful and accessible experiences for all users
Youhave experience developing and delivering products that meet a high bar of accessible user experience
Storytelling - ability to tell simple user stories illustrating solutions.
Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and analytical skills.
Good aesthetic sense and attention to details.
