**ACADEMIC QUALITY AND INNOVATION**

NorQuesters are difference makers, and we are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Instructional Assistant, Digital Accessibility to join our Digital Education team within the Institute for Teaching, Learning, and Technology.

Reporting to the Manager of Digital Education and collaborating closely with the Educational Development team and Accessibility Services, the Instructional Assistant plays a vital role in creating an inclusive learning environment by ensuring teaching materials are accessible to students with disabilities. This position focuses exclusively on digital learning resources—such as documents, videos, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs—and does not involve physical accessibility support, which is managed by other College teams outside Digital Education.

**HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:**

* Assist in the adaptation of current teaching materials: Collaborate with faculty to modify and enhance current teaching materials to meet diverse accessibility needs, focusing on digital resources, documents, video description, alternative text
* Ensure compliance with Accessibility Standards: Review and ensure all teaching resources comply with relevant accessibility standards such as WCAG II (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and other applicable guidelines.
* Provide technical support: Offer technical assistance to faculty in using accessibility tools and software, ensuring materials are accessible to students with an experience of disability.
* Conduct accessibility audits: Regularly review existing teaching resources to identify and address any accessibility issues, providing recommendations for improvement.
* Support the development of training resources: Collaborate with the educational development team to create training sessions and materials to educate faculty on best practices for accessible teaching.
* Stay updated: Keep abreast of the latest developments in accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
* Learn new accessibility conversion software as needed (e.g. Audible Sight, Brickfield, JAWS-Job Access With Speech)

**WHAT YOU BRING:**

* Educational background: A bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Education, Special Education, Instructional Design, or a related field is preferred
* Experience: Previous experience in a post-secondary educational setting, particularly in supporting accessibility initiatives, is highly desirable. Experience modifying documents and resources for accessibility and sourcing accessible materials.
* Knowledge: Strong understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., ADA, WCAG) and familiarity with assistive technologies.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in using accessibility tools and software, as well as common educational technologies (Moodle preferred).
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
* Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to achieve common goals.
* Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing accessibility challenges.

**SALARY:** AUPE | Band 6 | Instructional Assistant I | $49,129-$63,854 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience.
