Seeking a detail-oriented Accessibility Specialist with a focus on Section 508 compliance to ensure our digital products and documents meet the highest standards of accessibility. You will serve as a trusted partner in developing assets that are accessible to all users, specifically focusing on the implementation of Section 508 standards within a secure federal environment and occasionally supporting the remediation of complex documentation, including PDFs, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Microsoft Office formats. This role will provide 10-20 hours of support weekly.
Core responsibilities
- Audit, test, and perform expert-level remediation on PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files to ensure full compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards; audit, test, and remediate digital ICT (websites, docs, software) using WCAG standards.
- Actively review e-learning assets for accessibility compliance and work with instructional designers to ensure design and content is usable and accessible across devices.
- Provide actionable feedback to Project Manager on accessibility, preventing friction before it reaches the production phase.
- Anticipate potential bottlenecks in the document publishing lifecycle and propose streamlined remediation workflows.
- Manage compliance programs, train teams, and support procurement via ACR/VPAT reviews.
- Perform usability tests with assistive technology to ensure technical requirements meet user needs.
- Deliver detailed reports to clients regarding the state of WCAG compliance.
Requirements
- Must possess an active Public Trust clearance (or higher) or be eligible for immediate processing.
- Extensive experience with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and WCAG 2.1/2.2 (Level A and AA).
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS as it relates to accessible web architecture.
- Extensive experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (Accessibility Checker, Reading Order tool).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Google Workspace or similar system environment (e.g., Microsoft Office) and its common applications (e.g., documents, spreadsheets, presentations, process maps, shared folder management).
