About the Role

The South Carolina Judicial Branch (SCJB) is seeking an experienced Document Accessibility Remediation Specialist to support compliance efforts with newly issued ADA regulations for web accessibility. This role focuses on assessing and remediating the accessibility of court forms offered in Word (.docx) and PDF (.pdf) formats, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, Section 508, and WCAG2ICT standards.

The specialist will independently review, analyze, and remediate digital documents, ensuring they meet accessibility standards required for public use. A strong understanding of document tagging, alt text, reading order, screen reader compatibility, and accessibility tools is essential.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess and remediate Word and PDF court forms to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
- Ensure correct use of document structures such as headings, styles, lists, tables, alt text, and logical reading order.
- Remediate digital forms and interactive elements such as links, fields, and form controls.
- Perform accessibility testing using industry-standard tools and assistive technologies.
- Track progress and maintain documentation for each assigned form.
- Research and interpret laws, guidelines, and regulations related to digital accessibility.
- Provide problem-solving strategies to help SCJB achieve full accessibility compliance.
- Collaborate with internal teams and provide training on creating accessible documents.
- Handle sensitive information in accordance with security protocols.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

- 7–12 years of experience in document accessibility testing and remediation.
- 3+ years in Microsoft Word WCAG 2.1 AA remediation (styles, headings, alt text, reading order).
- 3+ years in PDF WCAG 2.1 AA remediation (tagging, logical structure, forms, links).
- 3+ years using accessibility testing tools (JAWS, NVDA, Adobe Acrobat Pro, etc.).
- Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, Section 508, and WCAG2ICT requirements.
- Ability to analyze policies and interpret complex regulations.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration abilities.
- Experience with compliance management software and accessibility tools.
- Ability to train staff on accessible document creation.
- Experience handling sensitive data.

Preferred Skills

- Experience working with court forms or legal documents.
- UX compliance experience.

Education & Certifications

Preferred:

- CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies)
- IAAP ADS (Accessible Document Specialist)
- Relevant education or equivalent work experience.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $45.00 - $52.00 per hour
