Job Summary: We are looking for an Accessibility Specialist to join our team and help ensure that our digital products and services are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This role is critical in promoting inclusive design and compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG, ADA, and Section 508. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accessibility principles, assistive technologies, and user-centered design practices. As an Accessibility Specialist, you will work closely with designers, developers, and project managers to resolve accessibility issues. You will conduct audits, provide training, and offer guidance on best practices to ensure that our digital experiences are usable by everyone. Your work will directly impact the inclusivity and usability of our products, helping us reach a broader audience and comply with legal requirements. You should be passionate about accessibility and have experience with tools such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, and automated testing software.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- ADA Compliance Strategy & Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive ADA compliance strategy for all aspects of language service operations.
- Service Delivery: Ensure translation, interpretation (including sign language and tactile interpretation), and other language services are provided in an accessible manner.
- Technology & Platforms: Collaborate with teams to ensure all digital platforms, websites, client portals, and internal tools are WCAG compliant and accessible.
- Documentation & Materials: Review and ensure accessibility of all client-facing and internal documentation and marketing materials.
- Policy Development & Review: Update internal policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect current ADA regulations.
- Training & Education: Develop and deliver training programs on ADA requirements and disability awareness.
- Monitoring & Auditing: Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Complaint Resolution: Investigate and respond to ADA-related inquiries and complaints.
- Liaison & Consultation: Serve as the primary contact for ADA matters, working with legal, HR, IT, and operations teams.
- Stay Informed: Monitor changes in ADA regulations, accessibility standards, and emerging technologies.
- Vendor Management: Ensure third-party vendors adhere to ADA compliance standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Public Administration, Disability Studies, or related field.
- 3+ years of ADA compliance experience in regulated or service-oriented industries; language services or tech background preferred.
- Deep understanding of ADA (Titles I-III), Section 508, and WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards.
- Functional knowledge of assistive technologies.
- Strong problem-solving and documentation skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, InDesign, Acrobat PDF, and document remediation software like CommonLook.
- Experience performing accessibility audits on remediated PDFs using screen readers (NVDA or similar).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
- Proficiency with multimedia tools such as OBS Studio and video editing software.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, or ARIA roles for web accessibility support.
- Understanding of accessibility challenges in linguistic services.
- Accessibility certification (e.g., CPACC, WAS) is a plus.
Work Environment: This is a hybrid role operating in a professional office environment with standard office equipment.
