SDOT’s Communications team is seeking a**temporary, two-year, term-limited Digital Accessibility Compliance Specialist (Planning & Development Spec 1)** who will help lead and sustain SDOT’s digital accessibility efforts under Title II of the ADA and WCAG 2.1 AA.
This position supports SDOT’s departmentwide accessibility initiative to meet federal compliance goals, with a primary focus on building lasting internal capacity and culture change. This role is responsible for auditing, remediating, and ensuring accessibility across thousands of online documents, webpages, and digital applications, while developing sustainable workflows and training programs for long-term compliance.
In addition to document remediation, this role will also support SDOT’s web content management work. The selected candidate will be trained to perform website updates and accessibility reviews within the City’s content management system.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in accessibility standards, experience in digital content remediation, and the ability to train and support staff across diverse teams. This role is central to SDOT’s equity and inclusion goals by ensuring all residents have equal access to critical transportation information and services.
Job Responsibilities

The Digital Accessibility Compliance Specialist will:
* Audit and remediate digital content including PDF documents, web pages, and online applications to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards, using Adobe Acrobat and other accessibility tools.
* Help coordinate training programs that build staff capacity to create, review, and publish accessible content.
* Advise and support staff 1:1 by reviewing documents, providing technical assistance, and answering accessibility-related questions.
* Coordinate with vendors and professional remediation services to ensure timely processing of complex documents.
* Help establish accessibility standards and workflows for digital publishing, ensuring compliance is built into long-term practices across SDOT.
* Collaborate with internal and interdepartmental teams (Communications, IT, GIS, and Citywide Accessibility Project Team) to align compliance strategies and reporting.
* Support website accessibility directly through our CMS system and working with the Website lead to make web edits,ensuring new and existing web content meets accessibility standards.
* Champion equity and inclusion by ensuring SDOT’s digital platforms serve all users, including people with disabilities who rely on assistive technology.
