Job Summary

The ADA and Accessibility Director oversees the management of the University's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, serving as the University's ADA/504 Coordinator. This role has primary responsibility for managing the interactive accommodation process for employee requests and assists in oversight and management of program, services, facilities, and digital resource accessibility. The Director works closely with departments to identify accessibility barriers and implement solutions that promote an accessible environment.

* Serves as ADA/504 Coordinator, overseeing and leading the development, implementation and monitoring of ADA compliance and accessibility programs to ensure the organization meets legal requirements.
* Collaborates with departments to improve accessibility across the institution.
* Establishes policies and procedures to manage the interactive accommodation process for employee requests and for enterprise-wide ADA compliance. Oversees and leads requests for accommodations by employees of the FIU enterprise. Documents and tracks accommodation requests ensure effective implementation and follow-up. Collaborates with institutional partners including HR, colleges/units, the DRC, and individuals with disabilities to determine appropriate accommodations.
* Supervises assigned staff.
* Leads and directs the day-to-day activities and operations of the ADA and Accessibility unit.
* Serves as a resource and key point person for faculty, employees, students, and stakeholders by guiding ADA-related issues and best practices for accessibility.
* Oversees and leads the development and delivery of training sessions to staff and faculty on ADA regulations, disability rights, and accessibility best practices.
* Maintains records and documentation for accommodation requests, audits, and compliance efforts.
* Stays current on legal developments and trends in accessibility, including new technologies and design principles, to ensure continued compliance and improvements.
* Advocates for using assistive technologies and universal design principles within the organization and works collaboratively with key stakeholders to drive implementation of compliance solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related work experience or Master's degree in a related field and six (6) years of related work experience.

Desired Qualifications

* Expertise in ADA/504 Compliance, including digital accessibility standards.
* Experience in managing the ADA interactive accommodation process for employee requests.
* Experience providing ADA-related training or education.
* Familiarity with assistive technologies and universal design principles.
* ADA Coordinator Certification (Must obtain certification within a year of hire).
