Temporary Position - Digital Accessibility Specialist, Web Development

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Temporary Digital Accessibility Specialist with a strong background in web development and WCAG to join our team. This role will assist the web team in updating documents and web pages to ensure all digital products comply with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other accessibility standards. This position will evaluate and remediate web page content and documents on County-owned websites such as AlleghenyCounty.us to ensure accessibility standards are met.
Looking for someone who is able to start mid-March for a 12-week period.
Responsibilities
- Review and remediate PDFs, webpages, and other digital materials to ensure compliance with Federal ADA accessibility guidelines.
- Collaborate with designers, writers, and other team members to ensure cohesive digital branding.
- Troubleshoot layout or functionality issues as they arise.
- Confirms website is responsive across all devices and browsers.
- Responds to website requests in a professional and timely manner.
- Conducts ongoing analysis of websites and develops ongoing reports and recommendations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
An Associate’s degree in a related field (i.e. Computer Science, Information Systems, Graphic Design, Web Design, Communications, New Media, etc.) AND proven experience in digital accessibility, preferably with a focus on ADA compliance.
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA or AAA guidelines.
- Mobile-first web design.
- UX/UI best practices.
- Document remediation.
- SEO and web content strategy.
Skill in:
- Content management systems, such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Magento.
- Accessibility testing tools
- Adobe Creative Suite (especially Acrobat)
- HTML, CSS, Modern Web Standards, SQL, JavaScript, and/or PHP.
Ability to:
- Communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, and articulate technical information in an understandable manner.
- Manage deadlines and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Be detail-oriented and organized.
- Make decisions independently.
