**Position Overview**

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is seeking a detail-oriented individual to serve as Attorney Support & Accessibility Assistant in the Appeals Division. This position provides essential support to a visually impaired IDES Attorney by reading and summarizing case materials, assisting with document preparation, and organizing hearing-related information. Duties include entering data into IDES systems, reviewing scanned documents and using specialized software to support the Attorney in conducting unemployment insurance benefit hearings and preparing decisions.
**This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to legal casework and hearing processes—ideal for individuals interested in law or administrative hearings.**
**Essential Functions**
-----------------------
* Read materials to the Attorney as needed, or provide written summaries of documents and other media, and shall assist the Attorney with sorting and organizing materials
* Enter text and data into the IDES computer system for the Attorney as needed, and shall review and correct scanned versions of materials as needed
* Assist the Attorney with the preparation and proofing of uniquely formatted hearing decisions and related documents as needed using Microsoft Office applications
* Be familiar with IDES recording systems to assist the Attorney in reviewing cases as part of their work
* Work with phone system used by IDES to assist the Attorney in making phone contacts needed for their work
* Use special computer programs and software that the Attorney will use to review documents in the record, conduct a hearing and prepare the decision in said hearing
* Provide such other visual aid services to the Attorney as may be needed and reasonable under the circumstances to assist the Attorney with completing her assigned job duties
* Follow and comply with all training and other requirements required by IDES and remain in compliance with all IDES policies and procedures
* Maintain strict confidentiality of all case-related information and comply with applicable privacy laws and IDES confidentiality policies
* Provides such other related personal services as IDES may assign
**Minimum Qualifications**
--------------------------
* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
* Requires at least 2 years of experience performing administrative or clerical duties in an office setting.
**Preferred Qualifications**
----------------------------
* One (1) year of professional experience proofreading and editing formal documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity in a professional setting.
* One (1) year of professional experience providing assistance or accommodations to visually impaired individuals in a work or volunteer setting.
* One (1) year of professional experience reviewing, preparing or processing legal documents and applying legal terminology in a professional capacity.
* One (1) year of experience using assistive technology, including but not limited to screen readers, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software and magnification tools to support accessibility in a work or volunteer setting.
* Microsoft Proficiency level: Intermediate

* Requires an Illinois State Police background check and self-disclosure of any criminal history.
* Requires use of an agency supplied laptop.
* This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing, or involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
