The Cloud Consoles team at Microsoft is seeking a Software Engineer who is passionate about building seamless, intuitive, and accessible experiences for millions of users across platforms such as the Azure portal, command line interface, Microsoft Learn, Visual Studio Code for the web (vscode.dev), and Serial Console. In this role, you will collaborate closely with a dedicated design team and backend engineers to translate research, wireframes, and visual assets into scalable, high-performance user interfaces integrated with distributed backend systems.

In your first 60 days, you will ramp up on the team’s architecture, tooling, and processes while contributing to user interface and backend integration improvements for ongoing projects. By 120 days, you will take ownership of engineering a new feature or user interface component, working with both design and backend teams to deliver a polished and integrated experience. Within six months, you will lead the technical implementation of a cross-team user experience initiative, ensuring that design intent is realized in production and backend systems are effectively integrated.

By the end of your first year, you will be a key technical partner to both design and backend teams, driving innovation and consistency in user interfaces and integration strategies. Responsibilities
* Implements user interfaces and interactive features based on specifications and assets provided by the design team, ensuring accessibility and performance using modern frameworks (React, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, etc.).
* Collaborates with designers to clarify requirements, provides technical feedback, and ensures feasibility and consistency across platforms.
* Engineers accessible, responsive, and performant UI components, integrating design systems and branding guidelines into production code.
* Partners directly with backend engineers to integrate user interface (UI) components with distributed systems and services, ensuring seamless end-to-end experiences for users. Remains involved in backend conversations rather than handing off backend work to others.
* Advocates for best practices in usability, accessibility, front-end performance, and backend integration.
* Participates in design reviews, sprint planning, and regular team stand-ups to align on priorities and deliverables.
* Troubleshoots, optimizes, and improves both frontend and backend integration points for reliability and scalability.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,

* OR equivalent experience.

* Experience integrating frontend components with backend services or distributed systems, including:

* Understanding of accessibility standards such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA).
* Commitment to inclusive design principles and usability.

* Experience collaborating in agile environments, including:

* Effective communication and problem-solving with designers, engineers, and project managers.
* Experience integrating design systems or working with cross-functional teams.

* Experience in in modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) and UI.

Other RequirementsAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

* Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python,

* OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
* OR equivalent experience.

* 1+ year(s) experience integrating frontend components with backend services or distributed systems, including:

* Understanding of accessibility standards such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA).
* Commitment to inclusive design principles and usability.

* 1+ year(s) experience collaborating in agile environments, including:

* Effective communication and problem-solving with designers, engineers, and project managers.

* 1+ year(s) experience in in modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) and UI.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
