Job Description

The Accessibility Manager will join TD's Digital Accessibility team to help evolve TD's approach to digital accessibility. In addition to monitoring website accessibility conformance, you will act as a coach and guide to product teams creating web and mobile applications to ensure they are accessible and usable for our customers with disabilities. In this role you will mentor and support designers, writers, developers, and quality engineers (among others) with accessibility best practices from early concept design through launch. You will also create and maintain accessibility guides, resources, and training materials.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Plan, lead, manage and/or oversee a diverse set of accessibility activities and integrate them effectively across multiple functional areas
Coach and mentor colleagues and digital product teams to meet accessibility standards and to follow best practices.
Support interaction and visual designers and copy writers to implement best practices and identify potential accessibility issues in artefacts they produce.
Support web and mobile applications developers to build accessible interfaces using best practices, and accessibility tools including syntax checkers and assistive technology.
Triage project issues and provide related guidance.
Contribute to self-serve resources (e.g. tip sheets, guides, patterns library) which the accessibility team maintains for digital practitioners.
Create role-based accessibility learning paths, workflows & training
Foster a culture of accessibility & inclusion

Job Requirements

Minimum 5 years digital accessibility specialist experience as full-time coach/Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Degree in related field, e.g. Computer Science, Design, Product Management, Disability Studies will be considered an asset.
IAAP CPWA, CPACC or WAS certifications will be considered an asset.
Demonstrated understanding of how accessibility requirements or best practices enable or improve access to digital content for People with Disabilities.
Comprehensive knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and related techniques for web, mobile and documentation.
Experience coaching or as an Accessibility SME for teams creating iOS and Android native apps.
Proficiency with multiple assistive technologies, including desktop and mobile screen readers.
Ability to coach and train designers, developers, and QA/QE.
Experience interpreting automated accessibility syntax scans.
Knowledge of semantic HTML and coding techniques related to WCAG.
Knowledge of WAI-ARIA, including best practices and patterns.
Ability to propose technical solutions for accessibility issues, including code samples.
Ability to summarize and explain digital accessibility topics to non-specialists.
Organizational and time-management skills; comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities
Experience with Quality Assurance defect triage and assigning severity and priority.
