User Experience (UX) Developer

The Digital Experience (DX) department is looking for a skilled User Experience (UX) Developer to help shape exceptional, user-centered, accessible digital services for Hennepin County. In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring that both public-facing and internal digital products are accessible, consistent, and aligned with the Design System, Hennepin County digital accessibility policy, and WCAG standards.

We’re seeking a passionate advocate for accessible inclusive design—someone who champions experiences that work for everyone, including people with disabilities. Success in this position requires strong collaboration skills, comfort working in Agile environments, and the ability to partner across teams, including DX colleagues, communicators, cross-departmental program staff, and vendors to deliver high-quality, accessible digital solutions that meet the needs of all residents.

**Location and hours:**

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

_At this time, employees may be eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to_ **_$2,343.99_** _that can be earned annually based on performance._

**In this position, you will:**

- Develop and support semantic front-end code for resident-facing digital interfaces; focus on ensuring accessibility and creating experiences that are friendly to all users, functioning across all browsers, assistive technologies and search engines.
- Partner and collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the design vision and UX best practices translate to the final, usable product.
- Document and incorporate design patterns, accessibility standards and UX best practices into the Hennepin County Design System to advance user-focused digital service maturity.
- Provide technical support and fulfill development requests in the web content management system (Sitecore).
- Provide technical and consulting support for DX consulting services.
- Assist with digital accessibility work efforts.

**Need to have:**

- One of the following:
- Four years or more of technology experience.
- An approved information technology certificate **and** two years or more of IT experience.
- Completion of five college/vocational technical technology courses **and** two years or more of IT experience.
- Completion of an approved IT Hennepin County internship **and** two years or more of information technology experience.
- Two-year college/vocational technical degree in a technology field **and** two years or more of IT experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a technology field **and** one year or more of information technology experience.

**Nice to have:**

- Experience:
- Experience in accessibility development work.
- Creating UX deliverables and responding to iterative user research, including wireframes, prototypes, and user personas used to advocate for users of websites and applications.
- Working with design system, web accessibility best practices, including meeting WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA and Section 508 standards.
- With UX design and development best practices, including the roles played by content strategy and information architecture.
- Executing front-end web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design).
- Working in Visual Studio, web content management systems (such as Sitecore) and with ASP.NET MVC layouts.
- Following or contributing to style guides and/or design systems.
- Using GitHub, Azure DevOps, or other version control systems.
- Knowledge of emerging web technologies, deployment models, security considerations, and a basic understanding of user experience foundations.
- Ability to:
- Clearly communicate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams focused on user-centered outcomes, including technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Actively participate in team discussions, make system-based solutions recommendations and advocate for consistently positive UX.
- Leverage creative problem solving when confronted with change and complexity.
