Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

This position is located at the LSC-System Office, University Park location at 20515 SH 249 (SH 249 and Louetta Road) Houston, Texas 77070-2607.

Position Summary:

This is a professional position in which the incumbent is responsible for assisting faculty, staff, and LSC leadership with developing instructional and non-instructional media content in compliance with LSC policies pertaining to accessibility. Provides oversight, technical leadership, expert guidance, coordination, and support to LSC departments and programs in their use of the web, with a focus on promoting, assessing, and maintaining web and information technology accessibility. Works closely with a variety of LSC departments (Office of Technology Services, Marketing, Office of General Counsel… etc.) faculty, and staff to ensure that the tools and services within the LSC web ecosystem are fully accessible to students.

Job Functions:

Establishes guidelines, best practices and standards related to designing and maintaining accessible websites, IT software systems and online materials. Evaluates accessibility of external platforms that host institutional content
Performs regular accessibility audits of institutional websites and web applications. Identifies and resolves accessibility barriers
Performs accessibility evaluations for websites and applications under consideration for purchase and deployment. Evaluates and recommends assistive software and hardware
Works closely with LSC IT services, web services, other LSC departments and with external vendors to implement and troubleshoot accessibility features for web applications and software. Identifies, implements and oversees tools for monitoring website accessibility
Develops and implements outreach and training materials for a wide variety of audiences, including end-users, web designers, developers and content providers. Acts as a resource for Faculty to deliver instructional materials online. Provides training on using accessibility monitoring software and assists in identifying strategies and solutions for IT accessibility
Oversees captioning resources for providing information regarding captioning videos published on institutional websites
Maintains the institution’s Web accessibility website
Creates a variety of accessibility-related reports and presentations as needed
Assists departments with accessibility-related administrative duties
Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Extensive knowledge and experience with web technologies (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Xml, and Web content management systems)
Extensive knowledge and experience with assistive technologies (JAWS, VoiceOver, Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
Extensive knowledge and experience with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards and guidelines
Experience with accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes
Familiarity with scripting languages desirable (PHP, JS)
Strong organizational and project management skills
Effective written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively and independently lead projects to completion
Knowledge of disability law including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504)

Physical Abilities:

Ability to give and receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound
Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading



Work Schedule & Conditions:

PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment. Specialized hardware and software/programs associated with web content/design, and accessibility
Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards



Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Information Technology, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction) and at least 2 years of related work experience (such as web design and production experience on a web development team, web accessibility analysis, design, and development)


Experience working effectively in highly collaborative, team oriented environments
Experience in a higher education environment
