Job description

CANAXESS is growing and we’re recruiting for our trusted engineers register which needs experienced accessibility engineers on call to help support increased demand for our services.



As a contracted accessibility engineer you will help ensure client's digital assets conform to relevant accessibility guidelines and are accessible to people with disabilities. You need to be confident working independently, be detail-focused and work to realistic timeframes whilst maintaining quality with your work.



This is a remote role open to anyone in Australia for placement onto our register of trusted accessibility engineers for times of increased demand, which we’re expecting 2024 will become!



Required knowledge and skills

Conduct technical evaluations on web pages, mobile and emerging digital platforms to assess accessibility.
Use accessibility testing tools, assistive technology, and expert manual analysis to identify accessibility defects for client products.
Be familiar with the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM).
Document accessibility findings and recommendations clearly for clients.
Stay updated on the latest developments in accessibility.
Be enthusiastic to share new ideas, approaches, and techniques for achieving accessibility.
Have self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
Possess excellent analytical skills with strong written and oral communication to explain actionable insights for clients.


Skills and experience

Over 5 years of practical experience in web accessibility.
A strong background in web development, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, WAI-ARIA, and the ability to understand WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 AA requirements.
Confident in the use of assistive technologies on various platforms, including screen readers and magnification tools.
Familiarity with the challenges related to digital accessibility experienced by people with disabilities.
Significant practical experience using a range of accessibility verification tools and adherence to accessibility standards.
