Web Services and UX Technical Lead (Web Developer III)

The Iowa State University Library is seeking a Web Services and UX Technical Lead (Web Developer III) to provide technical leadership and support for the Library’s web platforms. This position is a hands-on role focused on front-end development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript) and user experience across the Library’s web ecosystem, including Drupal, vendor-hosted platforms, and custom applications.

The successful candidate will:
- Lead and mentor web development staff and student employees
- Drive accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA, Title II)
- Develop and maintain responsive, standards-compliant interfaces
- Guide UX improvements with testing, analytics, and audits
- Establish and maintain design systems and reusable frameworks
- Collaborate with campus IT, vendors, and library stakeholders

Required:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in front-end development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript)
- Applied knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA)
- Experience creating or maintaining design systems, reusable components, or theming frameworks
- Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, or supervision for web development staff or projects
- Experience with version control and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub, Azure)
- Experience in higher education, libraries, or other complex organizations with multiple stakeholders

Appointment:
12-month, full-time, Professional & Scientific, Pay Grade PS811.
