We are a team on a mission, to put accessible and affordable healthcare in the hands of every person on earth. Our mission is bold and ambitious, and it’s one that’s shared by our team who shares our values, to dream big, build fast and be brilliant.

To achieve this, we’ve brought together one of the largest teams of scientists, clinicians, mathematicians and engineers to focus on combining the ever-growing computing power of machines, with the best medical expertise of humans, to create a comprehensive, immediate and personalized health service and make it universally available.

At Babylon our people aren’t just part of a team, they’re part of something bigger. We’re a vibrant community of creative thinkers and doers, forging the way for a new generation of healthcare. We’re only as good as our people. So, finding the best people is everything to us.

We serve millions, but we choose our people one at a time…

This full stack engineering role will initially sit within the consumer apps team. This is a small, specialist team who own our consumer apps as a platform. Consumer apps here means our Babylon mobile apps, and web app. You’ll be a leading performer, managing a high priority program of work that will have a fundamental impact on the consumer experience across a range of our digital products.

You’ll be establishing best practice processes, creating tools and resources, training and supporting your engineering colleagues who are embedded in Tribes across the business.
You’ll be collaborating across time zones and tribes, helping to build relationships with global stakeholders, shaping engineering capabilities and processes relating to accessibility and playing a key role in scaling methods, tools and activities that deliver value and forge strong relationships.

You won’t be alone in this mission, we’ve brought together one of the largest teams of scientists, clinicians, mathematicians and engineers to focus on combining the ever-growing computing power of machines, with the best medical expertise of humans, to create a comprehensive, immediate and personalized health service and make it universally available.

At Babylon our people aren’t just part of a team, they’re part of something bigger. We’re a vibrant community of creative thinkers and doers, forging the way for a new generation of healthcare. We’re only as good as our people. So, finding the best people is everything to us.

About the Experience Tribe
Babylon operates a tribe and squad model. We have 5 ‘super tribes’, each of which focus on a different stage of the customer journey, with the exception of the platform team, the data team and us - the experience tribe.

We sit across all the tribes, helping coordinate front end build, design, research and content.
We ensure consistency and quality of design and code in two ways - by having a Design System that is a repository of our front end components and by ensuring design and code governance.

In addition to this we are focussed on the future of Babylon Health. We are creating new products using a new tech stack, and are working on creating a vision for the future of the app. We are also responsible for supporting other tribes with the web app, as well as looking after the core elements of the app such as the home page.

We rely on the following technologies:
Java to write our backend microservices
React Native, Redux and GraphQL for our mobile applications
Kotlin and Swift for our native mobile components.
Kafka for our asynchronous message queue
AWS for our infrastructure
Docker to run our services on Kubernetes
Terraform for our infrastructure provisioning and deployment

Perform and/or coordinate basic accessibility audits of prototypes, websites, and mobile apps.
Collaborate with internal and external teams to identify strategies and implement accessibility solutions
Establish and implement enterprise guidelines, best practices, and standards related to designing and maintaining accessible websites, mobile apps, and online materials.

What we are looking for techstack:

You help champion software quality while being pragmatic.
You can work in a collaborative, transparent, non-hierarchical and ego-free culture where your talent is valued over your job title.
We believe that difference inspires a better, healthier world. That’s why it’s at the heart of everything we do.
