We're looking for an outstanding Section 508 document accessibility specialist to join our Editorial team. We anticipate that this appointment will last 6- to 8- months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.


Our office is currently operating virtually. This position is open to a full-time remote/virtual work.
Responsibilities:
To be considered for this position, you must be adept in the concepts of ADA or 508 compliance for documents and presentations. This includes familiarity with alt text, tagging, color contrast, and the requirements of compliance and how to meet them.


Remediate PDFs using Adobe Acrobat so they meet the requirements of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Section 508 Accessibility checklists, pass both the Acrobat and PDF Accessibility Checkers (PAC 2021), and are readable using screen readers such as JAWS or NVDA.
Remediate documents for accessibility-related design issues, such as color contrast or use of color.
Conduct quality control reviews on PDFs, PowerPoint, and Word documents to ensure they are Section 508 compliant.
Review and remediate PPT and Word documents to ensure they are Section 508 compliant.
Collaborate with coworkers in finding solutions to technical problems.

Qualifications:

Some college or military experience required; bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
Minimum three years of experience in an office environment performing Section 508/ADA/document accessibility compliance
Experience remediating PDF documents for Section 508 compliance; experience with 508 remediation of PowerPoint presentations required
Experience with document design and accessibility requirements regarding use of color
Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro or DC
Strong MS Word and PowerPoint skills
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work quickly and accurately, under deadline pressure
Strong command of English spelling, punctuation, and grammar
Innate customer service mentality
Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively


You’ll earn bonus points if you have:

Working knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Familiarity with HHS Section 508 requirements, experience using Axes PDF, CommonLook, Acrobat- or PAC 2021 accessibility checkers
Experience with JAWS or NVDA screen readers
DHS Trusted Tester certification
HTML and/or other programming skills
Editing or proofreading experience
Experience working in a government contracting environment
