This is a full-time, virtual position, available in select states*.

The Bowen Group has an outstanding opportunity for a Web 508 Compliance Specialist to join our team supporting the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy contract. CORE FUNCTIONS

Provide guidance on the pending changes to Section 508 regulations/policies and performs an impact assessment
Reviews web content to ensure compliance with accessibility standards such as Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act or WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards
Develops plans for making existing sites compliant with accessibility standards
Test websites using SortSite, manual techniques, screen readers, screen magnifiers, text browsers and other tools to identify problems that may not be apparent to the average user
Work with a team of developers to remediate problems identified through testing by tracking issues and solutions using Jira as well as conference calls
Collaborates with developers to ensure that new websites are accessible from the beginning stages of development
Keep software up to date and functioning correctly

Skills in:

Developing and maintaining accessibility policies that can be applied across an organization's websites
Providing training to supervisors and staff regarding accessibility requirements
Providing guidance on the pending changes to Section 508 regulations and performs an impact assessment
Reviewing website code for compliance with web accessibility standards

Ability to:

Write reports documenting findings and recommending solutions
Understand Section 508 and SCORM requirements for projects, adheres to corporate and industry standards and complies with federal regulations and client requirements
Use teamwork, communication and time management skills while multitasking in a fast-paced environment
Advise supervisor of any critical issues to ensure excellent customer service assessment
Follow compliance requirements as directed.
Apply rules to specific problems.
Lead a small team of Section 508 compliance specialists, if requested

Efficiency and Time Management

Maintain expertise in software systems. Ensure a streamlined flow and process, work quickly, stay abreast of design trends and innovations and learn new software quickly. Multitask in a fast-paced environment.


Quality Assurance Regulation

Support quality assurance programs. Support quality control policies and procedures through the adherence to quality standards. Ensure that all deliverables adhere to established policy and stylistic standards, acute attention to detail, ensure visual consistency.


File Management

Adhere to the file structure set in place for Creative Services; load all current/working files to the cloud at the end of every workday. Keep software files organized. Load final client files to cloud platforms and update as needed.


Section 508 Compliance

Ensure all documents are prepared and finalized in accordance with Section 508 compliance requirements. Analyze documents for Section 508 compliance and troubleshoot accessibility issues with these documents.


Education and Work Experience:

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a communication-related discipline
Work Experience: 5 or more years of experience using, developing, or analyzing 508-related technologies
Certification: DHS Trusted Tester Certification


Industry Knowledge:

WCAG, SortSite, JAWS and Jira functionality and usage
Terms and concepts commonly expressed in the Armed Services and federal government
Experience with and passion to support military community readiness highly desirable


Additional Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen
Must be able to obtain a favorable background check and government secret clearance
