Help shape the county’s digital transformation. The Office of Digital Experience (ODX) within the Operations lines of business seeks a Digital Accessibility Coordinator to own the county’s digital accessibility policy and oversee its implementation across the organization. This includes consulting with departments across all lines of business, developing procedures, managing a training program, creating a sustainability plan, and measuring county digital accessibility progress. The person in this position must be a strong advocate for digital accessibility, help foster a culture of User Experience (UX) across the organization, and participate in structures, processes and culture founded on ODX values.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility in start and end times. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.


About the position type:
This position is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County's Office of Digital Experience department to apply for this position. Limited duration employees not eligible.

In this position, you will:

Coordinate digital accessibility policy implementation by communicating policy, establishing procedures, serving as policy contact, and responding to County Administration's and the County Board's questions.
Establish countywide digital accessibility training program by defining criteria, selecting vendor, overseeing curriculum development, coordinating platform testing, managing vendor relationship, promoting training, and evaluating effectiveness.
Consult on digital accessibility issues by identifying root issue, recommending resources to support remediation, and promoting training/resources to advance accessible-first solution development.
Establish external digital accessibility resource to provide on-demand accessibility testing and coaching services.
Promote digital accessibility events, trainings, and resources including sharing digital accessibility progress to a wide variety of audiences both internally and externally to the county.
Establish digital accessibility goals, objectives, and performance measures that align to ODX and county strategic planning efforts, including disparity reduction goals.
Supervise digital accessibility interns.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Eight years or more of general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration or related field and four years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
Nice to have:
Digital accessibility certification through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).
Experience with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA, county web standards, and state and federal laws including:
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
Minnesota Human Rights Act
Minnesota Statutes Section 363A.42 Public Records; Accessibility
Experience creating and reviewing department and county policies that align with organization priorities.
Ability to:
Collaborate across all lines of business to advance the county’s accessibility journey.
Educate and influence decision-makers about the importance of improving accessibility for end users.
Communicate clearly using a variety of methods with a wide spectrum of audiences.
Manage and prioritize competing project and organization deadlines.
Administer contractual agreements and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
Develop long-term digital accessibility roadmap.

The Office of Digital Experience is in the Operations Line of Business, reporting directly to the ACA-Operations. It leverages agile, iterative practices to drive an equitable and inclusive digital experience for Hennepin County community members. ODX works with IT community, communications, engagement, and line of business partners to coordinate digital service delivery and organizational maturity.
