Specialist, Section 508 Compliance

POSITION SUMMARY
The Specialist, Accessibility Compliance contributes to accessibility compliance and quality assurance initiatives across the organization which result in publications, websites, events, and software that comply with federal guidelines for accessibility compliance, Section 508, WCAG, and other accessibility best practices, as well as NQF’s brand and editorial standards. The Specialist also contributes to efforts to establish the skill sets, staff, software tools, processes, and training necessary to consistently meet federally funded contract requirements. The Specialist works independently across the organization to provide accessibility compliance and 508 remediation support for contractual deliverables.
The Specialist, Accessibility Compliance must be a champion for accessible technology and promote access to training, tools, and resources that enable NQF to deliver products that support the needs of all users. The Specialist should be proficient in Section 508 and W3C WCAG Accessibility assessments, remediation, and testing for immediate contract positions. The Specialist must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 best practices for electronic documents (e.g., PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to both accurately identify accessibility issues, identify potential accessibility barriers and violations, and to remediate documents against current compliance standards.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform Section 508 remediation on electronic deliverables in accordance with federal funder guidelines.
• Contribute to efforts to establish the skill sets, staff, software tools, processes, and training necessary to achieve editorial and accessibility compliance standards.
• Communicate editorial and accessibility requirements in design, development, and maintenance life cycles of products and systems.
• Perform audit to assess level of Section 508 compliance for web, print, and applications.
• Contribute to Section 508 compliance instruction for NQF personnel, education of staff on the importance of accessibility and accessibility best practices, and instruction of web developers, document creators and software contractors how to meet Section 508 requirements.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, information technology, engineering, or related field required
• Certification in NetCentric’s CommonLook suite highly desired
• IAAP CPACC Certification is a plus
Experience:
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience assessing and remediating electronic documents (PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) using accessibility testing tools (WAVE, Axe, Chrome DevTools), assistive technologies, (JAWs, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, ZoomText, Dragon Naturally Speaking, switch devices, etc.), and NetCentric’s CommonLook suite.
• At least 3 years remediating documents in a federal setting.
• Working knowledge of HTML semantics/tagging, Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA), hyperlink integrity, and remediation of Section 508 accessibility issues.
Skills/Abilities
The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail and a customer service mindset.
• Proficiency in project, product or operational process support and coordination with increased depth of technical knowledge in area of work
• Experience supporting event logistics somewhat independently
• Proficiency in notetaking and drafting portions of PowerPoint deliverables/materials and proficiency with developing portions of written deliverables/materials
• Ability to operate with increasing independence and complete tasks efficiently
• Ability to recommend solutions and process improvements and campaign planning
• Agility and mastery of adapting to and supporting changing needs of an organization, conditions and work responsibilities
• Ability to work effectively with teams and with a collaborate work style
• Effective oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated proficiency in preparing accurate and quality written and visual presentations
• Proficient in qualitative and quantitative analysis

Salary Range: $65000 - $75000
